How to start, join, and control meetings like a pro.
Starting & Joining
Start instant meeting: Click Camera icon in Chat or Meet Now in Calendar
Join a scheduled meeting: Open Calendar tab → click the meeting → Join
Join via link: Click the Teams meeting link in email or chat
Dial in by phone: Use the dial-in number + conference ID in the invite
Join before host: Click Join → meeting lobby until host admits you
In-Meeting Controls
Mute/unmute: Click Mic icon or press Ctrl+Shift+M
Camera on/off: Click Camera icon or press Ctrl+Shift+O
Share screen: Click Share → choose Window or Desktop
Raise hand: Click React → Raise Hand (others see your hand is up)
React with emoji: Click React → choose an emoji reaction
View participants: Click People icon to see who's in the call
Open chat: Click Chat icon to send messages during the meeting
Record meeting: Click More (…) → Start Recording (if permitted)
Leave meeting: Click Leave → Leave now
Chat & Messaging
Start a new chat: Click the Pencil + icon or press Ctrl+N
@mention someone: Type @ + their name to notify them directly
Reply to a message: Hover the message → click Reply (keeps thread together)
React to a message: Hover → click the emoji face → pick a reaction
Attach a file: Click the Paperclip icon → browse or paste from OneDrive
Format text: Click Format (A icon) for bold, bullets, headings, code
Mark urgent/important: Click ! icon before sending to flag message
Pin a message: Hover → More (…) → Pin to keep it easy to find
Search messages: Press Ctrl+F inside a chat to search that conversation
Schedule a message: Click the arrow next to Send → Schedule send
Pro Tip — Quiet Hours
Set your status to Do Not Disturb when you need focused time. Go to your profile photo → Set status → Do not disturb. You won't receive notifications until you change it back.

Work smarter with channels, manage files, and save time with shortcuts.
Channels & Teams
Post to a channel: Click channel → New conversation → type message → Enter
Reply to a thread: Click Reply under a post — keeps conversation organized
@mention a channel: Type @ChannelName to notify all members
Pin a channel: Right-click channel → Pin — appears at top of your list
Hide a channel: Right-click → Hide to clean up your sidebar
Add a tab: Click + next to channel tabs to add apps (Planner, SharePoint, etc.)
Files in Teams
Upload a file: Click Files tab in channel → Upload → pick file from computer
Open in browser: Click file → Open in browser (works without desktop app)
Edit in app: Click file → Open in app for full editing features
Share a file in chat: Click Paperclip → Browse Teams and Channels
View your files: Click Files in left sidebar to see all your OneDrive files
Troubleshooting — Audio & Video Issues
If your mic or camera isn't working: Click your Profile → Settings → Devices → confirm the correct mic/speaker/camera is selected. Still not working? Try leaving and rejoining the meeting.

Set your status: Click profile photo → Current status → choose Available / Busy / Away / Do Not Disturb / Appear Offline
Add a status message: Profile → Set status message (visible to others)
Set duration: Expand status → set to reset automatically after a time
