What Gets Backed Up — Automatically
Datto Endpoint Backup runs silently in the background, continuously protecting everything that matters on your work device.

How to Check That Your Backups Are Running

🔔
System Tray Icon
Look for the Datto Endpoint Backup icon in your system tray (bottom right of your screen). A green icon means backups are current. A yellow or red icon means there's an issue — contact our support team.
💻
Right-Click the Icon
Right-clicking the system tray icon opens a status menu showing your last backup time, the number of files protected, and your connection status. No login required.
📞
Call If Unsure
If you haven't seen a backup status update in more than 24 hours, or you're not sure if your backups are running, contact Degarmo Technologies. We'll verify your status immediately.
File Restore
How to Restore a File You Need Back
Accidentally deleted a file? Need an older version? We can get it back — follow these steps or call us and we'll handle it for you.

Restoring a File — Step by Step

1
Contact Degarmo Technologies
Call or email our support team and let us know: the file name (or what you remember of it), where it was located on your computer, and approximately when you last had it. We'll look it up in your backup history immediately.
2
Choose Your Restore Point
We'll show you the available versions of the file — you have up to 30 days of file history. Pick the version you need: the one from before you deleted it, from yesterday, from last week, or from any point in the window.
3
We Restore It
Our team initiates the restore from Datto's cloud directly to your device. For a single file, this typically takes a few minutes. Larger restores (many files or folders) may take longer.
4
Confirm and Verify
Once restored, we'll confirm the file is back in the right place and check that it opens correctly. You're back to work with no data lost.

What Happens If Your Device Is Lost, Stolen, or Damaged

Don't Panic — Your Data Is Safe in the Cloud
If your laptop is lost, stolen, or fails completely, your data is completely safe in the Datto cloud backup. Everything that was backed up can be restored to a new device — your work continues without permanent data loss.
📞 Step 1: Contact Us Immediately
Report the lost or stolen device to Degarmo Technologies immediately. We can remotely wipe the device to protect any data that wasn't yet backed up, and we'll begin the recovery process for your data.
💻 Step 2: Get a Replacement Device
Work with your manager to get a replacement device. Once it's available, contact us and we'll install all your software and restore all your backed-up files — getting you back to work as quickly as possible.
☁️ Step 3: Full Restore to New Device
Datto Endpoint Backup restores all your files to the new device from the cloud. Your Documents, Desktop, application settings, and all other backed-up data are restored exactly as they were on your last backup.
🔒 Step 4: Remote Wipe (Stolen Only)
If the device was stolen, we can remotely wipe it to prevent unauthorized access to any cached files or credentials. This is done securely and does not affect your cloud backup data.
Ransomware & FAQs
Your Ransomware Safety Net — and Common Questions
If ransomware ever encrypts your files, Datto Endpoint Backup is your path to full recovery.

What Happens If Ransomware Hits Your Device

Ransomware is malicious software that encrypts your files and demands payment to unlock them. With Datto Endpoint Backup, paying the ransom is not your only option — your backed-up files exist in the cloud, before the encryption happened.

Without Backup
Your files are encrypted and inaccessible. Options: pay the ransom (no guarantee of recovery), or lose the data entirely. Average ransom: $200,000+. Recovery time: weeks.
With Datto Endpoint Backup
Your files existed in the cloud before encryption occurred. We isolate your device, wipe the ransomware, and restore your files from a clean backup point. No ransom. Full recovery.
If You Suspect Ransomware — Stop and Call Immediately
If your files suddenly become inaccessible, you see a ransom note on your screen, or files show strange extensions — do not click anything. Turn off your Wi-Fi connection and call Degarmo Technologies immediately. Speed matters: the sooner we isolate the device, the less damage the ransomware can do and the more files we can protect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the backup slow down my computer?
Datto Endpoint Backup is designed to have minimal performance impact. Backups run in the background using idle system resources. You may notice brief slowdowns during the very first backup (which copies all your files), but ongoing backups only sync changes and are nearly imperceptible.
How far back can I restore a file?
Your backup retains file versions for up to 30 days. If you deleted a file or need an older version from within that window, we can restore it. Files older than 30 days are not retained in the active backup history.
Are my backups encrypted and private?
Yes. All data is encrypted during transfer and in storage at the Datto cloud. Only authorized Degarmo Technologies technicians and your organization's IT administrators can access your backup data — and only for the purpose of supporting you.
What if I save a file in a location that isn't backed up?
Datto Endpoint Backup protects the standard folders (Documents, Desktop, Downloads) and any custom folders your organization configured. If you regularly save work files in a different location, let us know and we can add it to your backup profile.
